Taxis can usually be found in their designated areas. Some of these are near the Town Hall, the town centre, at the bus station, near the local police station, at health centres and in various residential areas.

Torrevieja still retains, in spite of its spectacular growth in population, many of its traditions, from the popular singing of Habaneras in family celebrations to the visiting of the La Mata pinewoods at Easter time.

The name of Torrevieja is inextricably associated with its International Habaneras and Polyphonic Competition which takes place towards the end of July in the area of the Eras de la Sal, the cathedral of the Habaneras.

Language

The official language of Torrevieja is Castilian Spanish, although on some official signposts are also written in Valenciano which is the co-official language of the Valencian region.

Dyke or Breakwater of Levante

The breakwater that finishes at the lighthouse of Torrevieja port has become a raised esplanade more than a thousand six hundred metres long, constructed with a modern and functional structure in which wood and metal is combined.
