Namnet fick staden efter alla de m\u00e5nga utsiktsplatser som fanns l\u00e4ngs hela medelhavskusten och som fortfarande finns kvar p\u00e5 \u201dTorre del Moro\u201d. \u00d6verf\u00f6ringen av administrationen av den kungliga saltproduktionen till Torrevieja \u00e4r en viktig fas i stadens historia, som ledde till att befolkningen \u00f6kade hastigt, fiske och saltproduktion tog fart och finns kvar \u00e4n idag.<\/p>\n

Ett av de viktigaste och mest omtalade inslagen i Torreviejas historia \u00e4r den sv\u00e5ra jordb\u00e4vning som skakade och f\u00f6rst\u00f6rde Torrevieja \u00e5r 1829 s\u00e5 att endast ett f\u00e5tal hus stod kvar. Ett uppbyggnadsprojekt sattes ig\u00e5ng av den spanska milit\u00e4rarkitekten Larramendi. Torrevieja fick en befolknings\u00f6kning som f\u00f6rst\u00e4rkts i slutet av 1900-talet.
