We are moving to the La Zenia area and are looking for areliable, resonablly priced, English speaking legal advise to handle our house purchase. Tm Torreblanca have suggested 3 or 4 firms but their prices appear a little steep!.

Any suggestions/ recommendations would be appreciated. Thanx

As a rule I would avoid using any firm that your builder recommends to you - you should select an independent firm who will have YOUR interests at heart, not the builder that keeps throwing work their way.

My house purchase completed on Friday of last week and I couldnt have done it without the help of Elizabeth and Teresa at General Legal Lawyers in Torrevieja.

I have done all of my correspondence via email and they have been excellent, keeping me informed all along the way of what was happening in Spain.

We used Javier De Juan Spanishlaw to purchase 2 years ago and were realy good even got some money back at the end after paying all the bills.

We are also buying through TM Torreblanca. They suggested a firm called Martinez and Ballaster in Torrevieja.

We went to see them in Spain last week and the lady there is called Beatriz. She spoke perfect english and was very helpful. We are only taking the option for them to attend with us at the notary's office on handing over of the keys and dealing with taxes and stamp duty afterwards. She is also going to deal with fiscal matters afterwards and her charges for that seem to be very reasonable - 70 euros a year plus 40 euros for the tax declaration. We have been quoted as much as 200 euros a year for that service.

She did translate and check a copy of the Spanish Land Registry entry for the development we are buying on which we obtained from TM together with a copy of the building licence issued by the Town Hall for the development. She also looked at the contract for us.

She charges 400 euros for attending at completion and dealing with taxes etc. but I dont know what she would charge for the whole service.

I assume you are purchasing at Zeniamar?
