You have not upset me and I don't think what you have said is contraversial. I have to say that we are all entitled to our opinion.......

Of course we all want whats best for our kids and feeling safe has to be a factor especially when you are up-rooting them from there home, school and country so I can understand that some people may not wish to leave thier children in the state system if they are not happy.

The Bi-Lingual schools I have looked at for my son have a mixture of spanish, english, german, and even romanian.

What I do find contraversial about your comment is that the children are possibly better off when they leave school after having been through the state system. Perhaps you could expand on that and tell us why???????

Ok I understand what you mean, and let me just say that the things I have heard are from other people, and should possibly be taken with a pinch of salt! I went recently to a meeting with my youngest daughter's teacher . just a progress meeting that we all get called to from time to time! My daughter is doing very well at school - I'm not blowing my own trumpet you understand!!She comes top of the class in all lessons - above the Spanish kids too so she is doing well. Her teacher told me that she ( daughter) would probably do well enough to go on to University here, but she would need to brush up on her Valencian language, as (apparently!) they have to pass both the Castellan and Valencian exams at high school. ( and I was thinking that at the fee paying schools they might not teach Valencian - but I dont know!!)Also, I heard from a Spanish friend's daughter ( who was looking into going to Uni), that they give University places firstly to those who have gone through state schools and done the Spanish G:C:S:E equivalent. Now I dont know if this is true - I just assumed it was because of the people who told me this information - maybe someone knows the true facts?! I'm sorry if I ame over as a big headed cow - really I'm a very nice person!! Of course every child is different, and we all want the best for our little darlings. One option doesn't always work for someone else! Am I forgiven - dont want to make any enemies!

I hope I have not given you the impression that you have made an enemy because if I have I apologise. I think its nice to have a healthy, firery discussion.

I am glad your children are doing well in state school and there is no reason to think my son won't. He has had a good start over here, having had the benefit of a fee paying education he is well advanced for his age anyway and I know that british schools are approximately a year in front of Spanish anyway.

It is nice to get other views on Education, so many people go to Spain to retire so have not much knowledge about schooling.

PS if your daughter is doing well you should blow your own trumpet and hers. Its great that she is top of the class for her subjects and that she has a good mix of friends of all nations. I can only hope my son will do as well.
