We are considering at a later date driving over from the Midlands to Torrevieja.

does anyone know how long it takes and a rough idea of the costs i.e. ferries and fuel.

Try the RAC or TheAA route sites there are many different ferries and roads ie. moterways (tolls) direct to Spain or traveling through France it all depends how much time you want to spend in the car.

If you go Plymouth -Santander ferry ( Brittany Ferries) which only runs March thru til Late October early November you can be in Torrevieja in about 7-8 hours , from Santander after an 18 hour crossing.

it's about 530 miles from Santander to Torrevieja, if you take the mountain route to arrive Burgos, there are no toll until you reach the San MIguel De Salinas tolls!!!!!!!!!!

There are tolls if you go the motorway (about 16 euros) last time I did it that way (2004)

Try www.mappy.com or www.viamichelin.com for excellent maps/directions etc.

The Plymouth - Santander route is ok but expensive more then petrol and tolls through France. I think you will also find that the crossing is over 24 hours oh and you pay extra for a cabin and you still have anoter 8 hour drive the other end.

We looked into this route for hubby's October trip but it just did not work for us, one reason was we are 4 hours from Plymouth anyway.

The new Brittany Ferries ship Pont Aven does the crossing in 18 hours, yes it is expensive but you have to weigh up the costs as opposed to staying in hotels, tolls etc. driving thru France.

In summer 2004 it cost us 650 GBPs that included big car & roof box and deluxe commordores cabin

The only way to travel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is this company Sunseekers International that will take your car over, have you got the details email address. Anybody know of anybody else that does this, I know I did read somewhere of a company that would take your car over, also pick up any goods you bought in Argos, B&W etc and take them over for you.

Probably about June next year. I know there is a company, that will take your car over, also if you bought goods in Argos, B&Q etc they will bring those over for you.
