How do I sort out water and electric

This is probably obvious but we have just taken over our house from the builder. It has water and electric currently, but how do we get the supply / bills and therefore payment in our name?

The builder has not given us anything so I am at a loss where to start?

Connection to the main utilities should be dealt with as part of the 'overall buying experience'!

Doc, are you saying that this could take a little time and that one should just enjoy the leisurely transition between free and paid for?

That is not too bad if that is the case. To be honest I was more concerned about being cut off!

I bought a resale so didn't have any of these problems - then again I didn't get any free power or water!

My understanding is that once the builder registers the certificate of habitation the bills then become your responsibility and the transition will occur. Best to check with your solicitor in the meantime for peace of mind.
