hi yes vinny yet again . anyone give reports on emerald isle? i have been told its a great place to take children and teenagers. where is it ? when is it open? any advice will do thanks vinny

I have been to the Emerald Isle many times. It's great for the family, good entertainment. I hope to get a gig or two there myself this year! Nice swimming pool, big ish bar, very relaxed, nice people, good beer, not too expensive, not bad food! more or less opposite Via Park 111, i don't know the road i'm afraid. Vinny - I see you're at Dream Hills, so I'll direct you from Via Park 3.

Walk towards Consum supermarket about a hundred yards and take a right. Emerald Isle is just a couple of hundred yards ahead - you can't really miss it (quite a few signs for it).

Not been many times (3 or 4 so far) but seems a good place with reasonable prices and a nice big pool. Lots of activities there from Spanish lessons to bowls and even a car-boot style sale (not sure how frequent).

Seems to be open all year round (we were in there Christmas Eve) but I doubt the pool is available all year!

Another good place nearby (my opinion - others may differ) is the Wicklow Abbey Tavern, close to the Emerald Isle. No pool there - just a large pub really - but they do cheap food and have a great outdoor bar and attractive beer garden to the rear, plus they have internet access etc. for those teenagers who get itchy fingers from being away from their emails too long... Plus a big screen for watching Sky Sports etc...

From Emerald Isle, turn left as you come out of the entrance and walk towards the La Florida shops & restaurants. The Abbey Tavern is more or less the first place you reach, on the right hand side. Recommended.

Wish it was back in Ireland, these places are nothing to do with Spain. I blame the introduction of the Euro for the invasion. I hate that other place in Playa Flamenca.

The emerald Isle is in La Florida. Also owned by the same people is The Celtic Isle that is in Playa Flamenca at the bottom of the market road

What you suggest is a bit like saying there should not be any Spanish bars in the UK/Ireland!


What people like about the Costas is it has a mix - I have just returned to UK from a brief visit to my home. I ate mostly in Sanish places but also had an excellent Chinese and a very nice 'English meal' I mostly had a cafe con leche and a pastry for breakfast but one day had the 'full monty' - thats life variety is its spice!

If you want to live totally in the real Spain why not move to a little finca in Asturias or somewhere very Spanish?

It was OK eight years ago before the English / Irish invasion ruined it. Don't think I have seen a Spanish bar in Scotland unless its an artificial one run by some UK pub chain
