  • Stones around pool area

    Hi all,

We are looking for a pool installation company who uses the all in one method of putting the coping stones round the top of the pool.

I guess it must be templated ??

Does anyone know the name of a pool installation company that do it we don't want the individual stones.

    Thanks

Most pool companies would do this. However, the usual problem with this method is that as it is cast in one piece, so there will be a high percentage chance of the final cast pool tops to crack due to expansion and contraction of the material used. That is why you will never see large expanses of concrete without an expansion joint.

A way around this is to cast it all in one piece and then cut an expansion joint here and there and then fill the expansion joint with silicon of the same colour.

It may take upto a year to crack but it will crack in almost all cases without a joint.

I'm guessing you have got or heard of people with seperate pool tops that come loose occasionally. If so it is the method of fixing that is the problem not the individual stones themself.

      Thanks for that cbram,

We already have a pool installed and the stones on teh top are dreadful looks like they have been stained with something. We have tried all sorts to try and clean them but to no avail. Any ideas??

I have seen someones pool and it looks far superior to the ones I have seen with the separate sones applied.

Would like to change it for a cast one and I don't mind if it has to bef cut at certain points to allow it to breath.

      Any ideas??

      Regards,

      Katrina

It depends how deep the stains are what the stains are made from etc also what material they are made from, if it is cement based and only surface stains then a brick cleaner should be adequate.

However, brick cleaner is only a very mild form of agua fuerte anyway so you could use that but if you do I would try watering it down first and test it on a part that wont be noticable. Increase it's strength until you are happy with the result. Just remember though that if it is a polished type of surface it will remove the surface.

Also DON'T get it on your skin as it will eat your skin away over prolonged use, even short use if you have soft skin etc. If you do get it on your skin wash in water immediately, best to use rubber gloves.

If that fails to do the job I have known people paint there pool tops with road marking paint, which actually looks quite good and isn't able to be stained easily. You could even mix a little marble powder (texture of sand) to give it both a none slip texture and also adds a sparkling effect to the paint finish.

Alternatively, the only solution is to replace them which could cost you in the region of 1,000 euros for a cast pool top. Pool tops are one of the most expensive parts of a pool during the construction process.

Thanks CBRAM will try that next time we are over.

Do you know the name of the road paint or where I would be able to get it ?? Paint shop??

Will try that and if all else fails then will just have to resort to changing it.

Do you know of any good pool installation companies?? So many out there who do a shoddy job and can't afford to do it for a third time.

Can't remember the name of the paint.

The only place I know of that sells it is ESVI paint factory in Villafranqueza it is situated at Villafranqueza exit on the A7 autovia between the San Vicente turn off and San Juan turn off. You can actually see the factory from the autovia.

The owner speaks English if you have any difficulty. Think his name is Manuel.

Sorry, I don't know of any pool companies in Torrevieja as I don't live in that area.

I used to be a builder for 20 years in Spain (qualified proper one) but have packed it in now as there are too many people doing shoddy work and doing it too cheap plus i'm getting too old for it. I'm suprised how many ex bank managers there are over here that are now builders!
