Once again the local Police have closed a live music venue in Torrevieja. This time Beach Bar 103 is not allowed to have live music, disappointing some two hundred people, particularly at the incredibly popular Jazz afternoons held on Fridays. I understand that some miserable killjoy put in a "denuncia." Just when will this hangover from a Fascist era be scrapped? Do the local authorities realise that this will do nothing to enhance the tourist industry? The quality of live music in Torrevieja is excellent, but if the policia continue to close venues, there will not be the places to play and musicians will inevitably drift away. How sad. The question has to be asked "Why do people come to Torrevieja?" The answer is for a better quality of life. Live music, which people are simply not able to afford much in the UK, assists with this. To deny so many people who have hitherto enjoyed themselves so much, particularly on a Friday at Bar 103, can only have adverse repercussions as word will inevitably be spread that Torrevieja's (English?) Bars and Restaurants appear to be targetted.

Roger, I could not agree more with your posting.
I was one of the musicians playing at Beach Bar 103. I am utterly disgusted and disappointed that we were not allowed to continue, the bar has had to stop all their music, they are not even allowed background music on their terrace!
I do not understand the logic, tonight I was having a drink in the Villa Martin/Los Dolses Centre, there were a couple of live singers who were good, a disco and a Karaoke, the noise was awful yet they get away with it-but for how long?
Roger, I firmly believe you are right, it would seem Live music is being targetted, but it only seems to be the British run bars, It cant be right that one Denuncia can stop everything, and the person who made it is not even named!
I am convinced there is a vendetta against British live musicians and Entertainers, so look out guys!
KEEP MUSIC LIVE!

We were so dissapointed when we went to the bar 103 to find they had had a denuncia put on them & there was no music.
We went especially to see a very dear friend of many years, Keith Monk play, who told me about the denuncia.
It seems as if denuncia's are given out willy nilly.
Keep Music LIVE. These are pro muscians, who are great.

In regard to Beach Bar 103. One has to ask what harm was music causing to the neighbouring apartments??? Answer , none whatsoever.
Jealousy must be the only reason that Beach Bar 103 was denounced.
As one reply stated, it seems only English Owned Bars in Torrevieja are being targeted. In Playa Flamenca there are Bars playing live music till 1-30 to 2-00am and apartments above but most are Spanish Owned.
Spanish Laws leave a lot to be desired but there is absolutely no way that they will change to suit Foreigners. Example a "Pub/Bar" with a Cafe Licence cannot by Spanish Law make sauces such as Gravy, only a Restaurant Licence holder can do that. Fancy a dry Sunday Lunch??
It is possible to find out who took out the denuncia, as the complainant has to put name, address and sign it.
All those interested in following the Guys from Beach Bar 103 should keep watch on the Forum and I am sure further info on any new sites will be posted.

I read the messages about the live music being targeted; perhaps the irish and english and others who like their live music should consider how to put pressure on the local conncillors to change things; for example putting up candidates in local elections to challenge/threaten their seats.
If expats are prepared to buy properties and move to spain or holiday there regularly and spend our cash we should have some say. When we first came out to Torry 6 years ago there was a lovely little bar near us in Playa Flamenca run by a German couple; the kids and adults alike enjoyed the place. A couple of years later it was closed and replaced by a Spanish owned "Irish" bar.
I will be going along the La Siesta when I'm out again in Sep to see the Jazz quintet.

Tooler, you will be very welcome. We did our first gig at Lakeside on Friday, it went very well. We also had a wonderful concert at Virgen Del Carmen on Thursday, with an absolutely wonderful audience.
Hope to meet you in Sept, keep watching this mesage board and we will update as to where you can see LIVE music and Jazz
