We are due to complete our property purchase anytime in the next 3-4 months and we are now looking to firm up on the best bank to use. The agency we bought via has set us up with Bankinter for our mortgage but we are also looking into options for other banks both for our mortgage (to get some comparable quotes) and also general day to day banking needs, particularly cash machine access.

We are buying in the Compamoar / Cabo Roig area can anyone advise which is the best bank for this area taking into account

1) Access to a local branches / ATM's
2) English speaking (we speak no Spanish at present

I can recommend the Cajamurcia at the Playa Flamenca centre by the Super Cor Supermarket. The Director is Monica who is half English and is also a very nice lady. The cashier also speaks good English. There is an external cashpoint and plenty of parking. If you go along the N322 towards Torrevieja, turn left at the roundabout with those newish white apartments with the blue balconies, turn left & into the car park which is adjacent to the N322.

You will find that most of the banks have branches on the "strip" at Cabo Roig and there are also three at the La Zenia roundabout (Banco Popular, Deutsche Bank, and Caja Murcia), which may be more convenient as regards your first point, as the N-332 can be a real pain at certain times! Having said that, it is now easier to get to places via the back roads once you get to know your way around. About the second point, sorry don't know but I would think that most banks in this particular area would have some English-speaking staff to deal with the great majority of their customers!

I agree with the jams, however you do not need to use your personal branch for every day transactions. Mine is in Torrevieja, where Monica used to work. Playa Flamence is one of my nearest and they sort out all my problems. Monica's just extremely helpful that's all.

Hi, You should also consider the CAM bank, they are very good and mostly all speak english and you will find one in every area down the Orihuela Costa. Good Luck

We are due for completion anytime and are also looking for mortgage options.
We are currently set up with Cajamurcia, and they have confirmed their intent in providing us with our mortgage requirements.
However they have quoted that the mortgage expenses amount to approximately 5,500 euros. I think this sounds to be expensive, does anyone have any comments??

In Playa Flamenca area, just off the N332 at the roundabout where the Lidl supermarket is.

Have a think about whether your new bank has Internet banking as well. If you're buying a holiday home rather than moving to Spain this could save you a lot of time in managing small transactions remotely.
