What has happened to the chiringuitos on La Zenia, Cala Capitan and Playa Flamenca. Does anybody know if they will be available during the summer? Will really miss my drink on the beach.

The story goes that the company who manage the beaches each year, and then sub-let to the bars, sunbeds, banana boats etc has been outbid this year for the 1st time in years by a new company who have decided to increase the rents by ridiculous amounts.

The spanish company who used to do it have apparently been there years and the 'tendor' for the annual contract was apparently a formality. Unfortunately this year for some reason they have been dropped in favour of a new BRITISH run company !!

Perhaps we all ought to complain to the town hall? Get this company sacked?

700,000 euros is about 500,000 pounds sterling!!!
I never thought that running a little beach bar could equal playing a minor role in a premiership football team!

I think you might find the figure of 700,00 euros a little exagerrated as this would mean that the bar would have to pay at least 7,000 per day of their breif 100 day season.

The figure you stated was for all the beach bars on Orihuela Costa and it covered several years of rental.

The previous cost of each pitch was approx 30,000 - 40,000 Euros which is
stiil an awful lot of money to pull back in three months.
