  • Lock Changes

I have been advised by AIB Technical that it is not advisable to change the locks on completion day as the electricity company and the water company, along with the builder will need to get into our property to

    a) fit meters (water / electricity)
    b) fix the snag list (builders)

As this is just a holiday home for us / family / friends based on this advise it would make sense to pop over and complete, the builder / water company etc get access to the property for a month before we are over for our first holiday and at that time we get the furniture put in.

    Two questions

    1) does this advise sound right?, I though meteres were installed outside the property in the boxes on the walls outside the properties.
    2) can anyone pls provide a good contact (e-mail address preferable)for lock changes so I can get alternative quotes to the AIb one I am getting

    Thanks

    Barry

Sounds sensible - just need to find a trusted neighbour. Do you know if the water / electriciity company actually needs access to the building or do the do the fitting to the boxes on the wall outside the property which each house on our Urb has?

Good advice Tim, as soon as you recieve keys have locks changed, also have extra window/shutter locks fitted, not to be alarmist but your arrival will be noted, and much better to have this work carried, then regret it later. The electricity company may need to check your consumer unit inside your property pror to connection.Contaact steve/ken at Portcullis locksmiths tel 966716649/651349789.
        Hope this helps

            Locks

Change your locks right away, as everybody and anybody has a key for your property. Also put Windows Locks on and if you have the pull down shutters, the little knobs on them take off and screw back on in the inside, this gives them no leaverage to push up. Get a keyholder and advise the builders etc the telephone nuymber of yuour keyholder and then anybody that needs excess will use them. Do you use AIB they are charging about 100% more than you can get it done locally. Ask some ofyour neighbours who they used to do locks etc. also make sure and get grills etc on the doors, windows that dont come with them.

Thanks - all grills in place or being put on as extra's, safes in place and property will be alarmed as well so with all the advisc, change of locks, window locks etc it should be like fort knox, security has cost nearly as much as the furniture, however it should help save the agro of having to sort out breakins from the UK

Also, make sure your insurance is in place - with a reputable company - and that they know it is a holiday home. So if the worst does happen you have your possesions covered,

                    locks

                    agree 100%
First priority is to change the locks. 40 euro from the local ferrets and 10 minutes to change them. Peace of mind generally .

If the water guys or electricity guys need in then let them make an appointment and then be sure not to be there:- that's what they do
                    Best of luck
