warning ! beach robberies

Despite telling everyone who vists Torrevieja to be careful. I managed to get my shorts stolen on La mata beach near the board walk. They contained money, my watch, credit cards and villa key! I was distracted for a matter of seconds by one of the chinese massage people on the beach,while someone crept up behind me to take the shorts. I think the chinese have a perfect cover for wandering about the beach and are in contact with people on the boardwalk looking for possible targets!!!
Does anyone know of any similar happenings or am I over reacting?

I have a Spanish friend and he was robbed on the beach at Guardamar, but he stupidly fell asleep! When we go to the beach I literally sit on all our belongings while evryone else is playing/swimming.It is so easy to be distracted by something though but what can you do? Maybe, apart from clothes, take only car keys to the actual beach(possibly safer to leave money etc locked out of sight in the car?), and put the keys in one of those waterproof pouch/capsule things you can wear on a string round your neck?!

David, maybe safer to keep the tiecord in your waistband tied tightly, that way they couldnt get your shorts down !! Just a thought.
