  • The rubbish in Orihuela Costa

I have recently moved to Orihuela Costa for good and love it. I love living in Spain and am trying to learn the language. My only gripe is the rubbish it just seems to get worse by the month, my wife and I have been to Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia and Cartagena this year as well as exploring local towns like Orihuela and Rohales. None seem to have the rubbish problems that we have.

The land opposite the new Carrefour to the beach is disgusting. Every bin area has piles of stuff around them and the worst road in the area must be Calle Victoria (unless you know better ) The waste land opposite Andalus 1 has been ruined by builders rubble, the bin areas are a disgrace and the road is weed ridden. Many other waste land areas are the same.

Does anyone know how to make complaints to the town hall over this and do we need a lot of them to get the area cleaned up. Also all these areas were left to supply the amenities for the area like childrens and sports areas and parks is there a plan of this anywhere with a timescale.

My biggest gripe is dog poop! Until i moved here a month ago, I had never walked any of the green areas or rough areas. Well I am disgusted. II certainly don't use them now. Once in each area is enough. I have never seen so much dog poop. I clean my dogs mess up. What is the matter with people in Spain. It is disgusting.

I must admit that is also very bad, my wife goes to aerobics at the emerald isle but cannot use the park to walk through for the smell and being to old for hop scotch. I wonder if they did it in England or Germany. I say that because you don't see much in the outlying villages. Speaking of which we went to Algorfa and Almoradi for the fiestas as we saw adverts for them. How many of you saw an add for the fiesta in our main town of Orihuela. Shows how much they care doesn't it. Maybe we should try to become part of Torre at least they are improving it.

Yes the walk to the Emerald Isle is something like a mine field...... Horrible........ People actually look at me as if I am mad when I pick up the poo!

I couldnt agree more. I think that a lot of the rubbish on land near emerald isle is because of people putting leaflets in car window wipers on market day and they are then just thrown everywhere. Also a word of warning i have been shot at by english teenagers with bb guns at the market - never mind the pickpockets mind the sharp shooters!
It does make you wonder what you have bought into doesnt it?

Unfortunately, due to the large British/Irish population on the Orihuela Costa, the yobbish behaviour/attitude has come with some of the youngsters. I think it is very sad parents don't spy on their offspring, I wonder if they would be horrified by their behaviour? The proportion of teenagers, many on mopeds who hang around the Abbey Tavern/ La Florida drinking until the early hours are a disgrace to us all. They swear, smash bottles, were so abusive to someone who asked them to be quiet at 2am, proceeded to throw bottles at a heavily preganant woman, swear, threaten bottle her husband, and then had the cheek to say they knew their rights! I blame it on their parents...... I would never trust any teenager to be doing what they said they were doing, they just need checking up on from time to time......

              dog poo

i have just returned from our appartment in los altos.while in spain as a keen runner decided to go for a run but made the mistake of running down the waste land just after the consum, there must be a herd of dogs here somewere as there was literaly a narrow path clear of dog poo but to either side you could hardly see the ground for the stuff, we used to direct friends and relatives across here as a short cut but now we advise them to go the long way round. i am quite ashamed of the rubbish and dog poo in the area even though none of it is mine . something needs to be done before the whole area is ruined

Now this will really put the cat amongst the pigeons but - here goes whilst on holiday for 3 weeks in August the only people i saw letting there dogs foul and not picking it up were ..........Spanish ... sorry ... but its true!
I did pay close attention and watched all nationalities, and im sure it was a fluke but there you go ... sorry.
One woman took her two little dogs out under her arm deposited them near the childrens play area opposite our apartments and you can guess the rest. The other walked there dog up the road and in full view of everyone let it mess,Now it could be that the english only do it under the cover of darkness i dont know what do you all think?
