  • Starting up a business in spain

My friend is an electrician and wants to start up a business on his own here in Spain. He would be working for himself with no other people involved. There would be no land/property involved either, just the legal stuff regards him being ok to carry out electrical works on his own.
Can anyone give me any information regards the next step and an indication on costs would be good too. Thanks.

There is bound to be someone else out there who knows more than me about electricians in particular, but I have heard stories that anyone wanting to do electrician type work out here has to have their British qualifications approved here by the Spanish government before they can legally work here, but I dont know what this involves! Your friend would be best registering a s self employed (autonomous). This means that you pay 230 ish Euros per month into the social security system and this payment covers your state pension, NHS health cover, and a sickness cover in case you are too ill to work! On top of this you pay tax every quarter the same as in the U.K, but here it is alot cheaper, and is a set amount for each small business, and not dependant on your earnings, so is really uncomplicated! Good luck!
