  • Considering moving to Torrevieja or immediate environs

    Hi all,
I grew up in Spain, in Alfaz Del Pi a bit north of Benidorm, leaving to go to uni in 1993. I'm considering coming back but I have to do some preliminary research so please bear with me. I'm a landscape gardener. How likely is it that I will find work, either for myself or for someone else. That is the important one. Lesser ones are can you still re-register right hand drive cars?
Do you have broadband in Torrevieja? Is there a live music scene (I play the blues and would like to keep it up if possible). There's plenty of housing at a price I can afford so that's not a worry...Is there a good vet in the area? I apologise for rambling but provided the work thing can be resolved the other things are more quality of life things. Man cannot live on sunshine and cheap fruit alone, alas. Anyhow, I hope someone can answer my drivel.
    Cheers
    Chris

      Hi Sandra,
Yes I can make a living as a landscape gardener here in England. The thing is I want to make a start on my own. Seeing as there's nothing to hold me to England, I'm looking to emigrate. To be honest I'd prefer Greece but people there don't have gardens as we know them. I was brought up in Spain from the age of 11 so at least I know the language and customs of the country. Well, at least I know the customs of the country as they were 13 years ago, I expect things to have changed a bit, hopefully for the better. I'm going to come over to Torrevieja for a few days in September to sound the place out. If there are 300 (hyperbole warning) other people looking for the same jobs I'll look elsewhere, there's no point overcrowding the job market even further. Thanks for your reply though, it's appreciated.
      cheers

        Hi Chris,
being able to make a good living in England in landscaping will be very different from making a living to the same standard here I would think. I would suggest you concentrate on those older urbanizations like La Siesta, San Louis, Chaparral, Quesada. All of these have houses on large plots and many are owned by older people who have lived here for many years. This is probably where the best market for you will be. On nearly all of the newer urbs, the plots are very small and usually paved over with some pots plants. Not a big market for landscaping there.
Best of luck, hope it works for you.
        Sandra
