Thanks JeansSis, delighted to be corrected, as we haven't flown into Murcia for quite a while now, preferring wherever possible to use Alicante.
Interesting to see that Record's prices are much higher from Murcia than Alicante, and perhaps this is why there appears to be two different views on their competetiveness.
With so big a difference, it's yet another factor to be taken into account when picking flights!

      Fuel

I hire cars about a dozen times a year from various airports around Europe and from and various companies.

I'm wary of using 'third party' companies to book cars, as a couple of times I've been left high and dry without a car on arriving at the airport; I now only use companies who I know will have a representative at the airport. It doesn't take long to shop around a few companies on the internet.

Normal procedure is to pick the car up full of fuel and to return it full of fuel unless you want to pay an expensive surcharge.

I've never rented from anywhere that wanted the car back empty.

The only rexception is Record (who I use frequently at Alicante) who want the car back with the same amount of fuel in as you start with.

The best thing is probably to ask when you pick the car up rather than rely on the "advice" found on internet message boards!

The staff at the desk can usually give you tips on which direction to take when leaving the airport.

Actually we have never found anyone who will let you have car with a full tank & bring it back full unless you only have it 3 nights So anyone other than Record I'd appreciate knowing about.

I have become a club member of Record now but whether I ask for prices with or without my club discount I've been quoted same so HOWEVER do you get fantastic discounts, Ricky T They say in the small print even maximum points will only give a 10% discount.

Do you get email then saying you get great price as club member IF you book from mailing

          Hi JeansSis,
You won't get any discount until you have used them the first time. They then credit your account with 1 point for each 10 euros spent. (you can check your points tally by clicking on the appropriate link after you have gone into "my account".
On your next booking, once you get right down to the end it will say "you can use a maximum of xxx points on this booking, how many do you wish to use" You put in as high a figure as it will allow and you get the discount off of the bottom line of the quote. It effectively equates to a rolling 10%, hence in my earlier example, 180 euros with 18 points offset became 162 euros.
          Hope this helps.

            Hi JeansSis,
Found your entry interesting as we always use Record, so decided to compare for our next trip out. Doyouspain came in 278 euros to Records 280 euros, but as "club members" (no charge for this) we get a discount which brings Record down to 162 euros. We have often shopped around, but when the discount is taken into account we have never found anyone cheaper than Record.
As already mentioned they operate a system whereby you simply return the car with the same amount of fuel as you ccollect it with which, especially on short trips can save a lot of money.
We've always had good cars and often free upgrades. We'd recommend them every time. Oops staring to sound as though I've got shares in them. :P Don't operate from Murcia though, only Alicante.

then you said... 180 becomes 162 with max 18 points...so you said wrong before & THAT'S why we were confused..

I only introduce people usually through our shop, where the customers are usually picked up from the shop by the hire company and taken to their base. I would certainly never be involved in a business that does not turn up for bookings. My customers are usually always in front of me when i contact the hire company. I do not usually offer car hire on the internet, but was merely offering to help if the offer should be required.

I appreciate that some 'third parties' are not always helpful, I am merely an introducer and all the details are dealt with the hirer, but always try to cover any customers need.

This particular company policy is that for pick up at the airport, their representative will meet you at the airport and you pay for a full tank of fuel and take it back as empty as possible. If you collect from their shop then it is pick it up with whatever is in it and return it as close to that level as possible.

I hope this helps and if anybody would like any other help, please dont hesitate to ask
