  • Whats the best mobile phone Sim card to use in spain?

I'm looking to buy a sim card to use in spain whenever i get down there. Primarily i'll use it to send and recieve texts to UK and was wondering what the best one i.e. cheapest card is.

I'm not sure if they have same terms as uk in the sense that it needs to be active or used a certain amount of times of the year and whether you lose credit after some months etc?

    Thanks

    Sim Card

    Hi

I bought an Amena sim card from Carrefour. It doesnt need to be re-credited after a certain amount of time so that is good.

I use mine just for sending texts to the UK, texts cost about 70cents each so not much difference than using your UK mobile!!

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has another type of sim card with cheaper texts than Amena??

I have had Telefonica MoviStar for 8 years. Just swap chips when I arrive in Spain. Texts are the same 70 cents. You need to keep it in credit, you get 6 months to use it so you need to top-up before it expires then all credit is for another 6 months. If now coming over the winter I get a friend in Spain to credit it for me.

      Regards

      John

Movistar here too, we just swap sim cards when we get to Spain too.

You DO need to top up credit each 6 months BUT you ONLY need to put the minimum 5 euros on which is nothing & we buy this from a shop by Laguna hotel, Lo Pepin just off Lemon tree Road. SOME places will ONLY sell you a 15 or even 20 euro credit. This tiny shop we go to even ring Telefonica up who credit your phone instantly & you see the credit whilst still in the shop. Your phone will tell you how much credit you have left each day (once for free) & it also tells you when you have to top up. We understand you can put credit on your mobile online with Cambank so check your own Spanish bank online for details.

It depends where you are staying. In Villamartin, where I live, the only good signal is Movistar. Vodafone and Amena have barely any signal round here at all. My friend has a Vodafone sim, and she receives free credit, usually 10 Euros a go, if she uses a certain amount. I think the charges are all pretty much the same, but you should check the coverage. If you go to one of the Dog & Bone shops, they can tell you about the coverage for specific areas and advise on the best card to go for.
