We are deciding whether to drive all the way up to the U.K through France or hop on the ferry from Santander to Plymouth. Only thing is we would be doing it in the middle of December, and we have heard that the crossing at that time of the year can be very rough (round the infamous Bay of Biscay!!). I dont mind having sea sickness (I rarely part with my food once its in!) but would it be the type of journey when you fear for you life, as I am scared the boat might capsize? Has anyone done this trip at the same time of year? Thanks for any help!

I like the Pont Aven. I have sailed on her three times, yes she moves around when the sea is bumpy, but then again all ships do, they are built to cope with rough seas.. mind you the Bay of Biscay can be very calm as well as very rough.
I have to say, the Pont Aven crew are lovely, polite and friendly, in all areas of the ship. The ship is spotless, the cabins are good for a ferry. The band is good, the pianist in the piano bar is good,( sorry to mention them but I am a musician) the restaurants and the self service cafes are good value.....SO! Have a good meal. have a few pints and get a good nights sleep ( book a cabin) and dont worry about the ship being sea worthy, she is!
Finally, remember, you are only making one trip, to the crew, she is their home, they trust the Captain and their officers to look after them-and you, they are not worried about rough seas, the Pont Aven was designed and built to do the trips she does, so relax and enjoy your "cruise"and if it's rough. so what! Hope you dont get sick!

Thanks to you all for your comments and advice. We have however decided to drive all the way up to the U.K as have since found that between November and March they use a different ship, and this one does not have facilities for dogs. so is no use to us!! Shame really as I like a boat trip - came down on the pride of Bilbao in August and it was lovely!Never mind eh -will get to experience the sights and sounds of France instead!
