We are driving up to the U.K through France for Christmas. We would be needing to book a hotel room for a stop over on the way up, but we dont own a credit card. Would we be able to reserve a room over the phone and pay cash when we arrive? Has anyone any experience with French Hotels?!

Hi,
I have booked lots of hotels in France by telephone from UK and they have always asked for a credit card number to confirm the booking. They are very keen on the use of cards in France as I believe the PIN number concept originated there?
Hope you are successful though trying without a card.
Regards
Terry

We have often travelled from UK to Spain by car usually making a stop-over in France for one or two nights. We have never booked in advance and always found a reasonable hotel. The freedom this gives in terms of the daily distance travelled and hotel choice adds extra excitement. Turn up, check out the hotel, pay for the night at check-in, enjoy a local meal, get a good nights sleep, have an early breakfast and back on the road. I'm feeling envious just thinking about it!
