You are right of course, but does a change of residency change your source of pension

Unfortunately, you will only be enitiled to a Spanish pension if you have paid into the Spanish system for 15 years of your working life.

If you have paid into the UK system for the required number of years then you are entitled to a UK pension wherever you live.

However, if you choose to retire to a country in the European Union then your pension will be index linked at the same rate as UK pensioners, but if you retire to a non European country ie Australia, USA or similar then your pension will remain at the rate it as when you left the UK.

Just a small point J White, if you did move to Spain and continued with your smoking given the low price of Spanish tobacco and the temptation to smoke more, it would probably not be a problem for you for much longer!
