I was introduced to Bankinter through my agent when I bought my property 2 years ago. I have kept my current account in credit, usually 1,000 euros to cover my direct debits... water, electricity, community charge, taxes and of course bank charges. Today I received a phone call from my branch. The first question was... how soon could I arrange an urgent meeting.
When I indicated that my next visit will be March, I was asked (what I thought were marketing questions) did I intend to apply for a loan, would I consider investing money with them or transfer any regular payments i.e. pensions. I replied 'No' to all the above, explaining that I spend less time in Spain than my main home. I was then informed that my current business with the bank was insufficent and I would be asked to remove my business!! So, I will find another bank next time I go over. I am shocked at this shabby treatment! Has anyone else been chased from their bank for not 'borrowing'?

Hi I have been in Bankinter for 5 years and nobody has been in touch with me like this. I just keep enough in to cover DD's ect. but thats all I have with them. It dosn't sound like them at all I would check with my branch next time you go in , or if you have internet banking or telephone banking complain to them.

Choose Halifax ES. No non-resident declaration charges at all, only 3 euros annually for a debit card, (keep 600 euros in generally in their basic current a/c which can be organised from the UK as we did it ! ) No charges for DD's etc. If you open a Halifax current a/c in the UK you'll have free transfers & a great rate , almost at bank rate. Takes 3 days bank to bank. It's ideal.

Bankinter, bad Bank
I had exactly the same experience with them, and the one in Los Dolces, Villamartin, trying to get me to buy stuff, after being summoned
Also, they froze my account without telling me, TWICE, apparently they wanted to see my passport, AGAIN
I would move, but my mortgage is with them
