  • Garden centers around Torrevieja

Goodevening, Could anyone recommend a few good Garden centers in and around the Torrevieja area within about a 10 miles driving of the town. The springs here and the garden needs some T.L.C.
Could you also recommend some climbing plants that will give a nice splash of colour in the summer, -preferably with a fragrant smell and can be kept in large tubs around the outside of the house and grow up over the car port to provide a little shade during the day preferably ever-greens. IAN

What part of Torrevieja are you? Valentin on the road to Montesinos have a multi-lingual lady who will be able to give you all the advice and information you can think to ask! Natur Plant on the roundabout towards Quesada also have an English-speaking person plus they are very helpful and will get in plants to order. Christians on the Lemon Tree (Guardamar) Road is also very popular with a huge selection of plants and other garden stuff. I could go on forever, there's so many!

Ian, agree with Wendy, Christians on the Guardamar Road is a really good garden centre, and also I think, reasonably priced.

              Hi...
Re climbers etc..try Jasmine for its fragrance and for colour there is Thunderbergia (sp) also known as "Black eyed susan".
You can also grow Bouganvillia in pots (When I say pots I'm mean really large ones BTW!) and these will give good colour without frequent watering or feeding and could be trained over arches or wires.

Galan de noche or dama de Noche are tall fragrant bushes that can be grown against a wall as they need support. Very nice night time fragrances..

Plumbago is a pale blue woody climber that looks good but can be a bit messy..

Also try the garden centre at Los Montesinos on the La Marquesa road. It is just after El rancho as you leave LM.

              Hope this helps

              C

                      Hi Ian,
We have an irrigation system in the garden. A system of a main watering tube running around the perimeter of the garden, this then has a series of thinner black feeding pipes coming off the main one leading to pots and tubs or specific plants. All the pipes are covered with a layer of gravel which covers the garden and all this is run on a timer from an outside tap.

The kit for this can be bought from any ferreteria or garden centre (we use Alcarez Hnos (Brothers) at Los Montesinos. They are very good and will help you with any questions about the fitting of the timer.

The kit is priced very reasonably compared to prices in the UK or so I'm told.

We have just fitted a new timer that cost us around 60 euros and this enables us to choose a watering regime. I.E twice a day for 3 mins.

                      Carol

                        Irrigation system for the garden

                        Good afternoon Carol
Thank-you for the reply ref-Irrigation system for the garden, this will come in very useful once we get it all set up and planted out for the summer, knowing that we can go away for a time and the plants can still be watered using the water timer (It sounds just the job).

Carol thank-you for your time to reply it is MUCH appreciated,

                        IAN
