  • Suma Payments

    Hi there

I was wobdering if someone could assist us in a general query about Suma.
As I understand it this is the tax you pay on the value of your property. What I need to know is are you liable for this tax from the point that the land registery confirms the deeds of the house are yours and is this tax paid yearly and when in the year do you pay this tax.

    Suma

Hi I am by no means an expert on this subject. Suma is the equivalent of our council tax here in the uk. it covers things like road maintenance, refuse collection, street cleansing, etc.etc. The name Suma only relates to the company collecting the tax on behalf of your town hall. Each areas cost is different just like in the uk. Your first Suma bill should be delivered to your Spanish address. go to your bank pay the bill and then set up a DD for future payments. Don't hold your breath the suma bill could take a while to arrive.

    Hope it helps.

Many thanks for the information. Do you know when will the first bill arrive after you have completed the house purchase. We finally completed on Monday 26th March. When will the first bill arrive we are going for a pool and the town hall have asked for a paid receipt before thay will grant the license for the pool.

I am trying to find the same information. We have lived on our Urbanisation for three years and still not received a bill. Several owners have had pools installed and they have no Suma bills but a Company put them in for the owners and have told them that they apply for the relevent permissions. If any one has more info on the Suma/local rates could they let me know please.

            Suma

The only thing I can say is to relay the info we have had from our solicitor which was that the suma bill could take months on the other hand could take a few years. We completed 12 months ago and still haven't had our bill. I have friends who waited 2 and 3 years for theirs. Sorry I can't be more helpful than that. It would appear each town hall works differently

            Regards

We completed Jan 2002 and received our 1st Suma bill in July 2005. This was the backdated bill for 2002, 2003 and 2004. We then received another bill in Sept 2005 for that year. Our suma bills now arrive in Sept for that year to be paid before october.
