That sounds outrageous. have you been to the British Consulate. if you have names of witnesses then surely you could produce a joint complaint. Just because you pleaded guilty should have no bearing on any complaint as it was obviously made under duress. if you are resident the you could approach a local politician to take up youre case (elections looming)
Amnesty International would be interested Im sure, they dont just deal with developing countries.
I had heard that the Spanish police were twenty years behind the British and this would appear to confirm it. Sounds like something that happened frequently in the seventies in britain.
Commiserations to you and your family.
Torretruths will be along in a moment.

With all due respect. I`m taking this story with a large pinch of salt. I lived here for 10 years and I`ve never been stoppedd once. Why are you constantly being pulled over. How comes there was 4 cars in 30 mins. I think the police have better things to do. I have friends in the police and they have asked if you can supply evidence they will do a few checks.

whilst having every sympathy with the author and his family I can only say that, just maybe, they have a very different breed of police officer in benidorm, on the rare occasion I have had dealings with any officers in torrevieja and surrounding areas I have found them to be very helpful and courteous, lets hope this is not contagious!

I think you could be absolutely correct, as it seems they are here to control the occasional tourist that has too much to drink. We actually drive past the British disco area of Benidorm every morning and there is usually a punch up going on more times than not as they tend to have just been chucked out of the discos that shut very late (around 6 to 7 am) which just leaves a bunch of people outside to do whatever they intend to do. There are alway police hanging around that area.Originalmente publicado por baileywhilst having every sympathy with the author and his family I can only say that, just maybe, they have a very different breed of police officer in benidorm, on the rare occasion I have had dealings with any officers in torrevieja and surrounding areas I have found them to be very helpful and courteous, lets hope this is not contagious!
Having said that the Spanish disco area has major drug problems (users and dealers) and you never see any police there.
Just reminded myself of an incident I saw around 18 years ago in a small Spanish village and that was the police dealing drugs in the local bar!
