  • Taking dogs to Spain

I am taking my 2 cavalier king charles spaniels to Costa Blanca, going through channel tunnel and driving through France and Spain. Never done this before. Can anyone give any advice regarding good places to stop that will allow dogs? Also any advice regarding finding a vet to give the necessary tick injection in France 24 - 48 hours before entering UK?
    All help gratefully received.

    Hi

We have made this return journey 7 times with the dog. We always stay in the Accor hotel group. They charge a couple of Euros to take the dog into the room

    http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/index.html

The cheapest is Formule1, then Etap, Ibis, Mercure and Novotel. They are often on the same site

Please PM me regarding the vaccinations for the return trip

    Regards

Thanks Pat for the information regarding hotels. Are they easy to find from the main roads/motorways? I have tried to pm you about vets, but the facility has been disabled on the site!

        Regards,

Thanks Sylvia for your post, good to know dogs are welcomed quite readily. Hope you have a good journey to Torrevieja. I'm going in September and returning in November so will let you know how I get on.

          Regards

As you look at the detail of each hotel, there is a map option to click on, and you do need to check that they are close to the motorway and very easy to find, as many are. But a poor choice can end up with you searching for the hotel

We have used two routes down. One swinging to the east of France to avoid Paris, travelling by Reims, Lyon, Dijon, and Perpignan, to then follow the coast. This year we went around Paris and by Clement-Farrand to join the coast just above Perpignan. A slightly shorter route but hell travelling around Paris at most times of the day, and not a route that I would consider without Sat Nav

I can give you details of hotels close to the road for either route. Please email me direct, taking out the word REMOVE

              Hi,

We drive out to Spain a couple of times a year with our Border Collie and use logis-de-france hotels. We plan our route from Eurotunnel and book before we go, most take dogs and many allow them in the restaurant too. The website is www.logis-de-france.fr

As for visiting a vet on the way back again we book an appointment and find a vet from the French Yellow pages www.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi click on flag for English, veterinary surgeon, town, click vet box, search.

We thoroughly enjoy the drive and make it part of the holiday, hope you do too.

Just read Pat's reply - would agree entirely about avoiding Paris at any time of day!! We make towards Rouen, Chartres, Orlean and on to Clermont Ferrand then you have a choice of either going down towards Millau (the viaduct is amazing) or round toward Toulouse - we usually go one way and back the other...I know most of it is motorway but it makes a change!!
