  • Cheapest way to phone back to the UK

We will be coming over to live in Spain in August. I need to ring my elderly Mom every day from a mobile as we will not have a landline for a while.

Can anyone recommend the best phone cards to use for ringing from a mobile and the cost involved?

I live in Torrevieja and use skype all the time. When you have internet sorted check out www.cheap-talk.com they sell skype phones and can sort it all out for you. i also use phone cards for people who do not have skype such as euro direct 6euros for 300 minutes you can use these on telefonica pay phones and landlines

        Question

When I am over in Spain I buy the Euro card that advertises 300 mins, when first using these to a UK landline I had loads of time but for the last couple of years its only been app 40 mins...any ideas why ??

Thanks for the replies. Everyone is telling me SKYPE but we will not have an internet connection available for a few months. That is why I am asking about cards for ringing on a mobile.

I will have SKYPE when I get an internet connection but as you are probably aware telefonica can take up to 12 months.

          Any more ideas for cards?

The catch is (as always!), you have to use it on a landline phone NOT a public phone - we got caught recently as well!

The euro cards are advertised on their site as being to ring from call boxes aswell as landlines but it costs 12c extra a minute to use the call box a charge set by Telefonica.

It is still only 14c a minute to ring back to the UK which is a lot better than me using my UK or spanish mobile. It will only give me about 85 minutes for a 12euro card but seems to be the cheapest way without having a landline.

Check out the deals from any of the local English phone stores
We use one in Quesada and subscribe to a company called JOVIVE-no direct debit needed just credit on both your Spanish Sim Card and on Jovive
We use our mobile all the time and find quick on and off phone calls to the UK very reasonable-seems to be cheaper in the evening too but you would need to have this confirmed

the jovive is poss cheapest you need a spanish phone or old phone with spanish sim in each phone call costs 40 cents to connect to jovive only each time you call then the charge drops to about 2 cents a min when talking to your conntact in england so if you are like us it cost about 42 cents a call cheap skates eh 20 euros on each card lasts us months
