Sorry you felt offended, sadly I don't have the time or the inclination to continue this discussion. So with your kind permission I will get on with my life. Maybe I could suggest you do the same.

Thanks Sylvia. It's a bit scary and exciting too as we have never been to this part of Spain and we will really be starting from scratch. But hey, that's part of the fun and we will really take our time looking around and listening to people who we met as we found that's the best way to gather info.
The promblems encountered by new arrivals and the property pitfalls are all similar to those here in Turkey so we will be vary careful before we make a decision. Watch this space!

          magsfly moving to torrevieja

we had never rented in that area of spain spent more time in the costa del sol.found it too expensive you can rent a villa with pool in quesada area for what you would pay per month for a small apartment in cds which was only basic.we have learnt a lot in the 3 months and now we are back in the cold miserable uk wish we were back.which areas are you considering.there seems to be more younger folks quiting th uk.what is holding me back from a move permantly, well i need to find work and its not easy.if i was retirement age i would be there.im learning spanish and managed to practice it whilst out there.good luck again

The advice to rent for a while first is not negative but very positive. There are some cracking deals to be had on various properties here but you need to be here for more than the fly and buy trips to find them. Not only will you get to find the right area for you but the best vfm property to suit your needs. Good Luck with your move, this is a great place to live.

I would suggest that with your childrens ages you put them into Spanish state school. Your eldest might struggle but with additional language tuition he/she would be ok. Your younger 2 will be fine. They take children from the age of 3 (dependant upon their birthday they might go into school at 2) into Spanish state school. If you are going to rent you must make sure you get your contract in Spanish so you can get on the padron, then you can get the children into school. I have nothing against Mar Azul but why pay fees when they can be immersed into the Spanish culture/school and all it costs you tuition lessons for your eldest child.

It really would depend on where your husband will work. You'll find sunseekers (or similars) in Torrevieja but far more in Alicante.
North of Costa Blanca is very lush because they have a lot more rain than south CB which is a subdesert.
I cant recomend neither north or south. I like them both, Myself I live in the Santa Pola area wich is great for me, as I work in Quesada and it only takes 20 minutes by car.
I do find north of CB a bit isolated but thats just me.
Playa flamenca is a part of Orihuela costa. started as small urbanisations but has now growed into 1 big village. No huge skyscrapers like Bdorm. Prices of villas are not too bad. Perhaps a bit masificated. Has the worst road in Spain ( n332) but the townhall is sorting that out.
Quesada. Nice villa urbanisation with all facilities. Belongs to Rojales. Quesada Itself is very unspanish. Rojales on the other hand is very spanish. 30 minutes to Alicante 10 to Torrevieja. and 2 airports within 30 minutes.
Gran Alacant - Another urbanisation that grown to become a small village. Properties are relatively cheap. Not that many villas for sale. more semidetached or attached houses. Many brits, scandies, and Spanish has their permanent residence here. Only 10 minutes from Santa Pola and Alicante. all facilities available and also has a comercial centre with lots of restaurants and shops and cinemas is due shortly.

All 3 of these is home to year around residents. so you dont have to worry about staying in a ghosttown in the winter.

                  good luck and welcome

Hi There, I live in Playa Flamenca and have done so for 4 years with my Husband and son who is 23. We love it and at the moment would not dream of living anywhere else. We did not rent first we looked around on several visits over the course of a year staying in various locations such as La Marina, Los Balcones, La Siesta, but none of those areas grabbed us, and then we decided to use agents from Anchorage Villas and they bought us to Playa Flamenca where they live themselves and as soon as we saw it we just knew it was right for us. We have the lovely beaches, countless supermarkets, british shops, doctors, hospital, school, saturday market, gym, dentists, bars, clubs, restaurants the list goes on all of these we can walk to from where we live, so transport isnt an issue either. The area itself is made up of several urbanisations some of which have their own commercial centers, mainly filled with british businesses so if its the typical Spanish village you are looking for then dont come to this area. If you are looking for a home from home in the beautiful sunshine where you can get everything that you would find back in the UK then this is the place, also the N332 mentioned in the previous post isnt just in Playa Flamenca it runs practically the whole of Spain being an alternative route to the motorway, the road itself is very good unfortunately its some of the people that use it that are the problem, some drivers seem to think its Le Mans whilst pedestrians seem to think they are somehow superhuman and can cross the road in front of oncoming traffic, thats where our council are going to make changes I believe in making some more flyover crossings for us. I cant think of anything more to tell you at the moment but if you have any specific questions let us know and I`m sure we will try to find the answers for you.
                    Good luck
