Just returned back to the UK to find another strange new item debited from my bank account. Can anyone throw any light on who/what AYUNTAMIENTO DE ORIHUELA are / is - amount deducted is just under 30 euros

Hi Barry, that translates as Orihuela city council.

Just a guess but I would have thought it's for SUMA or Council Tax although it seems very low - maybe that's your monthly payment or maybe the services are charged for individually and this is only for, for example, rubbish collection?
