  • pensioners benefits in Torre

I have heard that pensioners in Torrevieja may well be entitled to some cash benefits. Has anyone else heard of this and if so would you be kind enough to clarify.

They are most definitely entitled to at least one cash benefit that I know about, and there are probably more that I have not heard about.

If you ask in the tourist information office opposite the town hall, they will give you all the details.

Peter, I wasn't able to try to help you with your query because I don't know the situation on La Costa Blanca but I wonder if, when you find out, you could post the details on this thread because when I was last on La Costa del Sol, I was told by an Engllishman that "You could do a lot worse than move to Spain in your retirement. They treat pensioners VERY WELL here!"! Then, when I had to take a bus to Torremolinos to get my leather rucksack repaired, a Mexican lady was sitting next to me. We chatted and she told me that she was on holiday in Torremolinos from Mexico at the Spanish Government's expense!

P.S. And Mojacar is full of Spanish OAP's from other parts of Spain every winter!

            pensioners benefits in Torre

            Hello Alyson

I went into the town today and it is quite true that pensioners on Torre can claim 300 euros but you have to have a pension of less that 10450 euros. You must be over 65 and only have one property. You can also obtain help with the water bill. I this there are a number of other benefits which I am looking into but I have also heard about the holiday arrangements for pensioners. There is of course the free bus pass. I do not know what the spanish pension is like and of course it may well be reduced in order to give benefits

Thanks for that, Peter. 300Euros how often? A one-of or per month or what? Also, I don't know if you are aware of the history of Spanish contributions for Old Age pensions. As usual for Spain, it is a chaotic situation. They mde it voluntary! So, the people who contributed get the same as those who paid nothing in. And I thought the UK was bad for this sort of thing!
Also, when Spain joined the EEC, Brussels wanted them to cut their links with South American countries but Spain refused so any of them can come over and claim the Old Age Pension as well!
