  • Advice gratefully received

    Hiya all,

Here's a bit of a tall order....I appreciate that, but any advice will be more than welcome.
Let's set the scene first....me and she who must etc live at the moment near Cadiz on the Atlantic coast, where we have been for the past severeal years.

Some of the main problems here are 1) There's nothing much in the way of night life - certainly as far as live music etc is concerned. 2) It's a bit like living in Spain 25 years ago- we've got no electricity (we run on generator), no main line phone (they say we're two poles too far away), no made up road (We'll have to pay for that), no postal delivery (We're too far up our road - they only deliver as far as the third house down from us and we're another 20 metres away) and so it goes on ad nauseum. Despite this, we've managed to build up a nice business here and are about to sell it - along with our house - and retire, but are not ready to watch telly all day. So...........here's where I need some help.

My retirement is going to be spent having fun for as long as I can, which includes going out a lot in the evenings.

The daytimes - or most of them - are going to be spent, hopefully, fishing from the boat I'm going to buy (I don't like golf).

Does anyone know about marinas etc in the Torre area? Are there many and are they realistic as far as fees are concerned? And is there any room in any of them?

I see from some of the posts on the forum that there is some stuff going on at night, so that seems O.K. Around here, the Ayto won't let anyone have entertainment licences - mad ain't it?

Anyways, if anyone has any words of wisdom I'd be more than grateful.

    Cheers for now

Hi Lee just read your thread and at first thought how lovely to live in that area, as it is very built up here and very English and sometimes I regret not buying a house in the Real Spain, but after reading the long list of things you have to do without it has changed my mind somewhat, anyway to your enquiries, where we live in Playa Flamenca a few miles from the center of Torrevieja, we have every type of nightlife you could think of live music, quizzes, bingo, karaoke, the list goes on, as for restaurants I don`t think you would visit them all if you went out to eat every day for a year, and thats not counting the fast food eateries. Shopping is also very good with a wide variety, including many English retailers, Specsavers, Ikea, Iceland and all the supermarkets sell English foodstuffs as well.
I see you share mine and my husbands love of fishing but I have to tell you that the price to buy a berth in any one of the 3 marinas is around 10,000 euros per year, we don`t own a boat ourselves but my husband was told this, people much prefer to keep their boat either at home or in storage and then launch it themselves although they charge 30 euros for that. Also if I could offer just a bit of personal advice, when you go to buy your property I would definately go for a resale property as so many people are living in exactly the same circumstances as you describe where their properties haven`t been finished properly or not even connected to the main services. I know there will be lots of people who have bought off plan and not had problems but I think there are more people that have. Also if more people bought resale properties perhaps the builders here would give up. Anyway I hope that has answered a few of your questions let me know if you would like anymore info.
    Cheers, Marilyn

      Thanks for that Marilyn,

That's start anyway....as far as buying property is concerned, we would anyway buy a re-sale this time, because, hopefully some of the problems with buying new will have been ironed out. Anyways, time will tell.

      Tight lines
