hi claire, sorry you cant email me. we really didnt want to live on an urb, having always tried to live somewhere with a bit of privacy, but went and looked at different urbs anyway. i was shocked by how dead they were, it was like driving though a ghost town, probably because half the villas were holiday lets and people at work, school etc.... probably a good starting place to mingle if you can, but i felt it wasnt for us. i can imagine my kids in hypo mood making a right old racket and some poor retirees trying to have a nice peaceful dinner on their terrace!! alot of building work continuously going on at the urbs, the completed areas were pretty and very clean, all the gardens planted up, very pretty, but the rest was a building site.
a big difference in scenery, torreveija was what i had read, built up, sea front was nice, but when we went further north past alicante it was beautiful much more greener, mountains, felt more like what we were looking for.went inland 20 mins, found lovely places there aswell. to be honest came back even more confused where to go than before, but have learnt where not to go and more about what we think will work best for us. it was crappy weather when we went so we saw it all not at its best but still loved it and sat on the plane home feeling even more determined to do it!! my other half is going over first ,week after easter ,and im going to follow with sprogs in june.we need to make sure his job is secure(or as much as it can be)as all ive heard is how hard it is for work. i think you might be better off in specialist work as apposed to something that is ten to the dozen. anyway about your question of where we are going to move to..im not sure either!! im not really sure until other half gets sorted, because he works on repairing boats, im sort of stuck on places where these sorts of boats moor! down the costa del sol he would probably come across tons of the big fancy superboats, but we're still not so sure about costa blanca marinas!wont know til we give it a go! its a shame about my email, keep trying!! suzie x

You do need to think long and hard when considering which type of school to send children to when relocating. Spanish state schools vary in reputation. Many of the ones that are situated in areas which are highly populated by Brits, have their problems, particularly the Secondary ones.

Yes it is good that the children are picking up the language relatively quickly, but at the same time their learning can be hindered somewhat whilst they acquire the language.
Another factor worth considering is the question of whether you are likely to stay in Spain. Obviously nobody knows the answer to this question. Only time will tell. But if you had to return to the UK and your child had attended a Spanish state school, their integration back into a British education could be affected, particularly where English is concerned.

One solution would be to ensure they keep up with the English through a tutor. Or, if affordable, send them to an International School and provide them with extra Spanish tuition.

Obviously it is 'each to their own' but in my honest opinion, your child's education should be paramount in any initial decision making.
