  • Getting money bach into the UK.

I am in process of selling my property before completion due to family ill health, my question is when it all goes through just how do I get my euros in a spanish bank account back to the UK?, and what are the implications regarding tax and capital gains tax, i will also incurr a currency charge I presume?. I heard from a friend that it can take up to a year once fund are cleared to get it back.

I may not be entirely correct here but you said that you want to sell before completion. I have been told that if you sell a new build before completion you will not be subject to CGT

Sounds about right - if you have not registered the property, you are just transferring your "contract to buy" to someone else.
If there is tax, the buyer's solicitor is supposed to keep 5% back and pay it into the tax office pending a tax submission from the seller.

In the EEC there is supposed to be no restriction to transferring legit money. Just check with your Spanish bank what they charge and what rate etc. May also be charges at the receiving end.

I suggest, as this is presumably a substantial amount, that you check with one of the big Curency Exchange operators like MoneyCorp.
