  • Sound isolation - duplex. Any advice?

    Hi there!

We live in a duplex, and the people owning the adjacent property are almost never here.
However, they frequently let out their property, and as holidaymakers are not aware of the extremely bad sound isolation between properties we often despair because of excessive noise.

    Question:
Do anyone out there know of an efficient type of sound isolation?
Any ideas about whom to contact?

    Thanks for advice!

There is not much you can do - it's due to the hard construction. Concrete and hard bricks seem to transmit the sound, particularly impact sound like steps and doors closing.

To deaden sound you need carpets, fabric or cork tiles etc.

      Hi janEv
One possible solution is dry line the wall ie spot fix plasterboard to the wall then when dry screw wood patten to this and between these fill with 50mm expanded polistyrine then cover with plasterboard again and plaster over. This idea worked in the past for us in England.
      hope this might help,good luck.
