I will be travelling to Torrevieja with my young family at the end of this month(march) for our annual holiday and was wondering if anybody out there could give any info. on swimming pools or water centers open to the public at this time. Tried swimming in the sea last year with the kids and am just about getting over the shock now. Also any tips on places to see would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Municipal pool
There is an excellent indoor 50m municipal pool in Torrevieja opposite Torrevieja's football ground. Girls (even 5 year olds) are not allowed in the boys changing area and vice versa, so if the children are small and of different sex to you, you may have to wait for a family changing room. Swimming caps are obligatory. It is not expensive and was not busy when I went - just a few elderly Germans keeping fit.
It is certainly worth a visit if the weather is poor.

Other Stuff
There is a decommissioned submarine moored at Torrevieja marina. I am told it is worth a visit. I tried to visit on a Monday, but it was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. My sister who was there in the summer, when you needed to buy tickets, a day or so before you intended to visit, tells me it was worth the effort. There shouldn't be the same crowds this time of year. Day trips to Guadalest and the Algar waterfalls outside Benidorm were reasonable attractions given that Terra Mittica and other theme parks are shut this time of year.

The municipal pool in Torrevieja is absolutely superb. They insist on caps and flip-flops even for bald guys so come prepared. They sent my 8 year old son to the same changing room as me, by the way. But, he rapidly departed in embarassment.
