  • Buying car privately

I am buying a car privately, can anyone help with the following.

1/ is it possible to download the application form for change of ownership off the internet. Does anyone have a translation into English?

2/Location of Provincial traffic department in Alicante

3/What does the circulation permit of vehicle look like & what part does the seller sign

4Even if the car was bought privately is it right you have to pay 4% tax, if so were do I pay this,

    Thanks

    Hello Smarty,

I sold my car private about a year ago and wanted to do all the paperwork myself.
It's possible but to play safe I got in contact with an asesor that did all the papers for us (me and the buyer).
There are many assesores and solicitors around that provide the service to transfer cars but be aware that they charge different fees.
If I remember right we were charged 250 Euros, 125 Euros each as we decided to split it, this included everything.
It saves you a lot of time!
    Good luck.

The buyer and seller should both go to the TUV office which is across the road from the ITV station in Torrevieja. The engineer there will do all the paperwork for you, and contact you by phone when the documents are ready for collection. Until they are ready, he issues you with temporary documents. It is all very simple.

You said it's across the road but do you mean the ITV place just past Carrifour on the left hand side? If this is the place were is the TUV office? Have you used this method to transfer a car and do they speak any English? Also what papers do we both need to take?

        Thanks

If you go around the roundabout at Carrefour and go to the ITV station along the service road, the TUV office is directly across from the entrance to the ITV station in a bungalow. It has a HUGE sign outside - TUV. You will need to take all the relevant documents pertaining to the car which includes proof that the last Suma has been paid. Both of you need to take identity, NIE or residencia, and also proof of address which could be an escritura or a utility bill. The guy speaks reasonable English and he is well used to dealing with foreigners. As this is all he does all day, he will know that you are transferring ownership of the car. We have done the transfer quite a few times this way and it's easy.

What about the tax? I understand you have to pay 4% tax on the selling price, even if bought privately. Do you pay this at the TUV office or have I been mislead by this?

Any tips on best time to go to office?

            Thanks for all your help

Don't know about this 4%. The best thing you can do is to go along to the TUV office and find out how much it is going to cost you in total. The engineer in the office has a book of charges, but there is no obligation, if you decide that the charges are too much, you can always walk away. Remember, the TUV is a government office, so you should be cutting out the middleman. As to the best time to go, well I would always avoid Torrevieja on a Monday and a Friday, the other days are just pot luck.

Have been over and went to the TUV office, have now sorted all the paper work out, as you said very straight foward, the price thay charge goes on the on the age of the car, thay is no need for seller to go I as the buyer sorted it myself,

                Thanks

I have a K reg car that I am considering bringing over and putting on Spanish plates. It is a good runner, but old. I wouldn't like to drive all that way and then have it refused out of hand because it is old. How likely is this or do they purely go on a car's condition ?
