Problems within Torrevieja and surrounding areas.

Please firstly excuse my number of posts etc.
(This is nothing against anyone who lives there in Torrevieja just curious before we head out.)
I have read a lot about problems in Torrevieja such as muggings, robberies and gangs of youths hanging about. Is this sometimes taken out of proportion as in there are really as many as it seems? or is there a lot of crime about?
If so where are the main areas to avoid? where would these gangs of youths normally hang about?
Is it a safe place for teenagers (my children) to be about?

Any info is appreciated.

As with all news, bad news sells better thena good news. The crime rate in Torrevieja is a bit higher than the average for a town its size. Its not as bad as they make it look like. If you check teh latest statistic from the ministry of domestic affairs, you can see that the major part of crimes commited in the area are related to tourism, I.E pickpocekting , bag snatching etc etc.
There were some gangrelated troubles due to latinamerican gangs in the public school. Been a long time since I heard anything of it.
Dont know af any specific areas that you should avoid. Perhaps the area around the busstation and Avda Habaneras at night.

I live in Torrevieja and it is frightening when you read all the bad things, but take precautions, be on your guard, if anybody comes up to you in a supermarket and starts asking questions, be vigilant, his friend could be pinching your purse, don't leave your front door open and go upstairs, the opportunist could be waiting to pop in and take the camera. Torrevieja is a holiday place as well as a residential area so we get lots of people who let their guard down and relax that little bit too much. Just be careful and enjoy your stay. I certainly feel safer here than in England! Happy holiday.

It's without doubt a lot safer here than any city in the UK, and most seaside towns. Just use your common sense and you will be OK

Can't relate to England but if it's safer than England Im sure it would also feel safer than Northern Ireland, so Im sure we'll be fine.

Just a bit worried about the youth gangs, would they target other youths?

Dont carry a handbag, dont leave attractive items on display inside your car, dont leave your front door or windows open or you may well be mugged or bag snatched. These are simple rules that apply anywhere on the planet and not just here. I have have never came accross any gang violence here in 5 years so I cant comment on that point. This is a fun place but you should be vigalent as previosly stated but there is no reason whatsoever why you wont have a great time whilst you are here. Better that Portrush, Bangor and Newcastle put together.

Yeah that is true, but we shall remember to be extra careful anyway.
I would like to hope it is much better than those three put together, lol.
