hi, we are looking at moving as soon as we can as the uk dont do it for us anymore we are asking if anyone can give us some info on schools in the area as well as the job market im a tradesman but that is carpet fitting so i know there isant a huge call for my trade there but all suggestions will be appreciated thanks

Everywhere is tiled, so a job as a carpet fitter is out of the question. The job front isn't too good at the moment, you could probably get a job in a bar/restaurant but really need to speak Spanish as with most jobs. As for schools, from what I hear it's pretty easy to get the children into state schools but the thing I think you'd have to worry about is the job front.

Don't buy rent for 12 months at least to see if you can all settle in Spain. There's a glut of houses for sale so there are plenty of bargins about. There is no problem with schools. The kids seem to settle well and soon pick up the lingo. I think you would have to find a different trade though.

thanks simmy we think renting to start with is the best way forward and looking for work is going to be my big hurdle do you know of any security companies at all as im ex army

No I don't know how you would go on getting on with any security firms as they all seem to be Spanish and you would have to speak it pretty good i would think. Best thing is to come out and put your feelers out in the local Brit bars to see what work is on offer. Self employment would be your best option I think.

There are loads of them.
Loomis, Prosegur and Securitas would require a license. Im not 100% but I think you would need to be a spanish citizen as you would need a license for firearms.

But you would probably need spanish though.

Schools

Yes, it is easy to get children into the school system, but it is a myth that all children learn Spanish to a level that is necessary for them to be able to leave school with the school leaving certificate. Many children have to be put into the private schools, which are English, to give them any form of eduction. This can be costly.
A lot depends on the age of the children and the attitude of the parents.

Many English children of between 12 and 14 return to the UK for an education.

There is a school at Los Dolses - behind Supavalue supermarket. It is a temporary school made up of portacabins. The school has been 'temporary' for at least 5 or 6 years. A new permanent school is on the horizon. However, this is a 'Spanish' horizon, so the goalposts are changed annually.

Hi, we have a place in Los Altos. Friends of our who have lived there for the past four years have taken their now 15yr old daughter out of a spanish school, due to bullying. She is not going to finish her education now. Luckily she's fluent in spanish and will hopefully be able to get a job when she turns 16. I have heard that there is a lot of bullying in the schools with english children. x

hi thanks for your replies we reckon that we would be better of renting for a while, the work front is going to take a bit of time to sort out thanks for the list of security companies i never knew they were armed. the kids are 17, 12 and 8 we were surprised to hear about bullying was it bullying by spanish or english kids.
