  • NIE Numbers

    Hi

My husband and I bought a house in La Mata back in November 2002. We have just found out from our solicitor that we do not have NIE numbers! Obviously we are fuming about this as all the forms were completed when we purchased and although the law has now chanced, we cannot understand why the NIE numbers were not applied for.

Can anyone tell me what we are supposed to do as all we have heard are horror stories about queuing at 5am at somewhere in Elche.

    Thanks for any assistance,

    NIE

Yes it is a horror story, but that is the time you have to queue at, the best place to go is Alicante and if you are there early (5 am) doors open at 9 then you will get it on the day at the other places you have to wait for about 4-6 weeks. dont know where it is in Alicante as we were taken by our agents when we were out a couple of weeks ago, and we do not complete till end of year.

Sorry that is the best I can tell you, maybe your solicitor will be able to help you more but they will charge you for it.

      Hi ,
Elche was ok for us we got there at about 07.am Iwas having breakfast at 10am.
They arrange buses to Alicante now for the applicants. You can be there all day but you do get your NIE there and then.
Takes about 6 weeks at Elche.

        NIE application

I have to say our visit to Elche was not a stressful event at all. We went in September with two filled in application forms(but not signed) passport photographs and the original and photocopy of our passports. We arrived at 8.00am joined the queue and left at 9.30am.

We returned to Spain in January this year, went to Elche to pick up our NIE numbers, arrived at 8.30am and left with the numbers at 9.15am.

The whole process for us was an enjoyable experience and just another tick in the box. I think us brits need to learn to slow down and relax, enjoy all the new experiences. Spain is not the UK with sun, they do things differently in Spain.....................learn from them or buy a sunbed in the UK.

Is it possible to download the forms and complete them before going over to Spain? What documentation do you need to take with you when you go for the NIE number?

            NIE Numbers

Good Morning Paddy, yes it is possible to downlaod them, you can even fill them in on screen and then downlaod, but don't sign them until you are sat in front of the official.

            Documentation:

            1) Two copies of the NIE form per applicant
            2) Two passport style photographs per applicant
            3) Your passports and a photocopy per applicant.
            4) You may not need it but take with you two copies of a utility bill from home, gas water, telephone anything like that.

You will find the form at

            www.mir.es/extranje/modelos/ex14bis.pdf

If you need help with translation give us a shout, it is not difficult.

            Good Luck.

            Kind regards Roy and Val

Thanks for the NIE form site, it is easier to see the form and be prepared before getting to the office
