  • Digital TV Through Top Box

Does anyone know what, if any english speaking TV you might get with a Sat TV Top Box?

I saw them for sale in the electrical store in the Habenaras and they were the same as what you can but at home in Tesco!

What would be picked up with a top box in Torrevieja?

We have got a Spanish digibox and it doesn't pick up any English channels. But, and it is a big but, a lot of the film which are on, and some of the other programmes, are in Spanish and the original language. Just press the button on the zapper to flick from one language to another.
Don't bother to bring a digibox from England. We tried it. It doesn't work.

Surely it depends on what type of dish or aerial you have connected it to ? But I am not saying that will you get Sky etc etc !!

Our digibox is connected an aeriel so cannot pick up any satellite channels.
I didn't think they could be connected to a dish.
The are for picking up terrestrial Spanish TV.
As I said we usually have at least two films a day which can be switched to English. Also BBC wildlife programmes are sometimes on TVE2 and can be watched in English.
Even TVE1 has lots of films we can watch in English.
It's not fantastic, but if you cannot have a dish, or do not want the expense, the are a good alternative.

Do a channel search every so often. Did one yesterday and to my daughters delight, she can now watch Disneychannel.

So, including Disney what others do you get in English?

One of the Telecinco channels has sport in English. And quite a few have films. One evening we had a choice of 4 different films in English. (Unfortunately we didn't fancy any of them)
Wildlife programmes are sometimes in English.
American sit-coms are sometimes in English on some of the channels.
It's not perfect by any means but it makes a change to watch something in English.
We happen to like the news in Spanish on TVE1.
I'm sure you'll find something you like. Good luck

                Tdt

The boxes receive TDT which stand for Terestial Digital Television. The signal is receive through a normal arial and is the Spanish equivilent of "Freeview"

If you want to receive English channel the best bet is still Telemicro. You have to pay a subscription. They have had some problems recently , but the company now has new owners. They have at present 55.000 subscribers and plan to expand into other areas.

It is quite true that it is the Spanish equivalent of Freeview.
The difference is, if the programme was originally made in English, you just press the language button on the zapper to see the programme in it's original language.
