  • I purchased a second hand dish and box for 150 euros and self tuned to satellites named: Astra 1C/2C - Astra 2A/2B - 1 SIRIUS 2 & 3 - Hotbird - and can receive plenty of channels free to view including ones I have set as favourites: Sky News, BBC News, CNN News, France 24 News (English Language), Euro News, Horse & Country, True Movies 1, True Movies 2, Paranormal Channel, Movies 4 Men, Movies 4 Men 2, Film 24, Zone Horror Movies, Life, Zone Romantic Movies, Zone Reality Movies, Zone Thriller Movies plus loads of music, children's, religious and other channels. I am more than content with this.
I am now better off financially without Telmicro and will never use a middle man again.

Its a smaller dish which I bought from a private individual via free adds. Signal fine. I also get plenty of radio channels as well.

Round Town News today have a very full article about Telmicro and the illegality of rebroadcasting Sky, BBC and ITV:

            • Interesting article about Telmicro and illegality of rebroadcasting together with statements from Sky, BBC and ITV:

I bought my dish second hand via a private ad in free adds. It is a smaller dish but is fine and includes radio channels.

There seems to be some confusion here (yet again). I have also got all the channels previously mentioned by Harveydog with a 1m dish pointed at astra 2 but of course you cannot get bbc/itv etc without a much larger dish. The size of dish can vary between locations that are quite close to each other so expert advice needs to be obtained before going off and buying a dish on your own.

                    Hi Alan

We are in the process of installing a totally legal free to air satellite system in various locations on an Urbanisation in Los Montesinos.
The system comprises of a 2.4m dish which is pointed directly at Astra.
Connected to the dish is whats called a "headend" which allows as many users as you wish to connect to the satellite.
The cost of the installation depends on how many channels you want to access from Astra, we suggest 20 english and 6 spanish { it is the law to provide spanish channels to a property } you may already have televes spanish connections, if so this would be sufficient.
There is no need for set top boxes in each home either as the existing cabling is used to connect each home to the headend.
I have a full schematic drawing and price breakdown if you would like me to eamil it to you so you can check for yourself.
We would also be available to visit your site if you wish, to survey and give recommendations etc.

This is not a re transmitted signal because the dish is picking up legally transmitted channels from the satellite and viewed by whoever wants to see them.
To allow more than one user to view the channels then you need a headend system which connects more than one user to the satellite.
each person can watch legally transmitted channels without the use of retransmitting the sginal.
The signal is not being ingest and retransmitted, it is there all the time attached to a piece of equipment to allow more than one person to view the satellite.

Sorry, I am now confused...if the signal is collected and then directly distributed (via a switch) to the end-user home and therein connected to a Freesat box or the like then surely you have no control over the channels or STB being used. however, if it is a true 'headend' then it is ingesting signal, transcoding and then re-distributing...and therein controlling centrally the viewing capabilities of end-users...ie can the end user scan all available programming from the Satellite or are they restricted by the 'headend' controller?

there is no need for a freesat or set top box because the headend distributes the signal to whoever is cabled back to the equipment.

it is only like having 4 TV sets in your home and you only have one aerial in your loft or on the roof

there is no headend controller , you are phisically wired to the headend and depending on how many channels you wish to receive depends on the size of the headend.

if you want 2 channels or 64 channels depends on how much the community wants to pay for the hybred headend system

                                .
