Any one know how much money you are allowed to carry over to Spain in hand luggage ,I,m still a bit wary of the banking system since a friend happened to check her account at a well known bank near the park of nations ,she checked her account late sat.just before we left for a week in benidorm ,she had an extra 10,000 euro in, me being an oppertunist??? said draw it out ,she being totally honest declined, on returning a week later ,the money was gone,The bank could,nt or did,nt want to offer an explaination as to how it came and went

If you have a Barclays, Halifax or Lloyds account inthe UK you can transfer money across with no charges, obviously you would need to open a euro account this end, that would be much safer than carrying a vast amount of cash in your hand luggage/bumbag better as it's always on you. I'm not sure of the amount you are allowed to carry though, questions could be asked if it was over 5000 maybe, I really don't know. I think a lot of us are wary of amounts being taken that shouldn't but you can normally sort it out if it does happen without much fuss.

I also remeber somtheing about 10K cash.

Regarding the 10k in your friends bankaccount, Alot of the times is a human error. Someone types a digit wrong or gave the wrong accountnumber in, Could also be a computererror. Happens in all banks all over the world. She was quite right not to with draw it. She would have seen herself with a massive overdraft and then would have to pay th interests on that.

There are no restrictions on the import or export of Euros into Spain. However, the export of any currency (not just Euros) in excess of €6010 per person per journey must be declared.

So it would be an issue of how many GBP your allowed to export form the UK then

Several years ago I had something similar with Lloyds. Don´t be any more nervous about Spanish banks than English.....

Just look at the notice boards when you are next at the airport arrivals, i'm sure that it says no more than 10,000 euros in cash, which is what Carmen was talking about
