  • Moving to Montesinos...

    Hi there,

Was wondering if anyone could give us some info please. In 7 days we will be starting our journey through France on our way to our new life in Los Montesinos. Could anyone tell us, if we bring say our microwave it will work? Also all the power tools my partner has as he is a plumber? We were thinking of bringing our 42" Plasma but were told it would not work! Got a guy coming round to buy it tomorrow, at a huge loss i might add!! Would have loved to have taken it with us if it will work.

Also, any good advice on the best route from Calais that does not go through Paris?

Thanks for taking the time to read and maybe make some new aquaintances through this site, that would be a huge bonus,

    Ty Gail

You've left your planning late haven't you. All electrical appliances will work, just need to change the plugs or use an adaptor. Not so sure about the TV though, perhaps the manual will tell you what countries you can use it in.

Your TV will work here if connected to a digibox or Sky, but you won't get spanish TV sound.

Best route fom Calais avoiding Paris is:

        Calais towards Boulogne (free motorway)
Toll motorway to Abbeville about 10 euros
Free motorway to Rouen, then Evreux, Dreux and to Vierzon. Pick up free A20 motorway-coming off just before toll starts (after about 150 miles) hen on N20 to Toulouse. You then have a choice of heading through the mountains (breathtaking) by-passing Andorra and on to Manresa.

Head towards Barcelona but turn towards Tarragona then stay on coast road N340 all the way to Valencia. This by-passes Valencia, then head towards Alicante on N332, all the way.

Motorways are very expensive and you will save about £150 in tolls if you stay on major roads, just using free motorways where they exist. Much nicer on major roads too.

              Andorra

Whatever way you come avoid Andorra. The Customs guys there will have you empty everything out onto the road and will be very suspicious.

Would agree with going towards Rouen, avoid Paris at all costs, but we use motorway all the way, once you get to Clermont Ferrand you can either go towards Montpelier and see the Millau bridge en route (it's the shorter way but prettier and a lot more bends) or towards Toulouse a bit further but takes about the same time. Enjoy the drive.

                  B+B Hotels

We stay in the B+B hotels in France. The are economy hotels and cost approx 38 euros a night per room and you can find them very easily off the motorways. After a long drive all we want is a clean bed and our own shower and toilet. What we also like about them is they have secure parking, which is handy when you have a car load. They have a website, so take a look.

thank you so much for your reply, i have printed off your directions and have been looking at the route..ty. As for the tv, well, we might bring it with us as its only 6 months old and being a panasonic, we dont really want to let it go for a half of what we paid for it, especially when we would have to get a tv when we get to Spain.

                      Moving to Montesinos

We love Montesinos and live close by. With regard to power tools my husband brought a lot out with him when we moved over and brought a transformer to allow him to use them all ( cannot believe I am being technical )
Would not bother with the microwave if you are tight on Space when you travel as they are very inexpensive to buy.

My 43 inch Pioneer plasma works fine, as will al other TV's. It's works both in analogue and digital mode (built in Freeview tuner.

                        Of course, only Spanish TV.....

Microwave anf anythng from the UK will work here.............

I am really curious. Transformers are NOT required. Spain using he same voltage (235) as the UK, (and also the same frequency 50 hz).

That is why the sale of UK to European plug adapors is so popular.....

As far as the TV is concerned most modern Tv's will work any where in europe if you go into the menu on the tv, look to see if it gives you the choice of which country you want to use it in or what type of system to use (ie pal1/pal2/ntsc ect) if it gives you the choice then it will be ok in spain, if not then it will cost you about 100euros to have it converted when you get here (a lot cheaper than selling it at a loss as Tv's tend to be more expencive in Spain)

possibilty of using an english tv

When we arrived in Spain with are Hitachi tv that we purchased in GB we were advised by an electrian to purchase a spanish vhs player. We bought a samsung vhs player and guess what the tv worked champion. I am not sure if you can still purchase a vhs player but it is worth considering.
