router gets hot

Help my new router from telefonica got quite hot over night, can anyone tell me if this is nomal, I thought the idea was that you left them on all the time but with it getting so hot I`m afraid to.

Sounds like you have a faulty router to me - I'd get it checked out. also make sure nothing is accidentally preventing airflow around the box (paperwork etc piled on top or underneath etc ... most electrical equipment like that requires a small clear area around it to make sure it gets a good airflow and therefore doesn't overheat.

Everything is cheap. And produced in Asia somewhere. The reason some things are more expensive is simply that someone wants more profit. There may be a small quality difference between the cheap watches you get on the streets here, and the DVD's, but it hardly amounts to the price of the original being worth it.

Mine doesn't overheat. I have put it behind my TV, as I think it is not a very pretty thing to look at. I also have a private router that I run an alternative (open) network on, and I run a bluetooth network as some of the devices here does not support wifi.

If I was going to complain about anything, I'd mention that the range could be better. However it is not particularly much better on my private router. It amazes me that the Bluetooth has range down to the communal pool.

You may have a faulty power supply. If the router is pulling too much power from the PSU due to a fault then it will overheat. I'd look at sourcing a PSU from a friend or whatever and see if it makes a difference. Much cheaper to replace the PSU than the router I would imagine.
