not sure on a garmin, but on the tom tom you would back up the sat nav then delete the maps that are already on there.

    hope this helps

      Help with Sat Nav

      Hi Colin
I would have thought the instructions would say to do this, but it simply says
load the disc and follow the prompts!
I'm such a novice, I dont know how to back it up and am a bit concered about deleting the existing.
I go away on Friday and was hoping to take the updated version with us as it will then have all the ATM/cash stations on it.
But if push comes to shove I will have to get my computer guy in - another expense!!

      Thanks for your help.

Its preety easy to free memory. You just need to know what you want to keep and what you dont use anymore.

If you open Controlpanel. and click on add/remove programs. there you can get an overview what programs you use often etc.
There are better programs around but thats good if you dont know what youre doing.

          Help with Sat Nav

          Hi Nalle
I need to free memory from the Sat Nav not my hard drive.
The Sat Nav was top of the range and I'm reluctant to delete
the programme from it without knowling it is the right thing to do.

A chap named Colin said that with a Tom Tom you have to back up the
Sat Nav and then delete the programme and download the disc,
but he's not sure this also applies to Garmin.

If push comes to shove, that's what I will have to do.
          Thanks for your interest

Perhaps Garmin have a forum that you could look at, perhaps you could ask on that if there is one? Worth a try.

i didnt say delete the programs, just the maps.

              try http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/1262_OwnersManual.pdf

and look at managing files on your nuvi

June, are you sure you don't mean your computers 'C' drive, ie your hard drive is low on space ? The Nuvi map disk probably needs to load it onto your hard drive (temporarily) before putting it on your Satnav itself. Garmin are good products and I would not have thought they would give you something that was not easily installable on t heir product ?

I also have a 660 (FM) version and will be interested in hearing from you.....ebt

                  Sat Nav

                  Hi
It turned out that the problem was - most people have a 'C' hard drive, for some reason
mine is called 'H' and the update doesn't give any option where to save, it automatically saves to 'C' drive. I called my computer guy in and microsoft wouldn't let him change the name from 'H' to 'C' but fortunately, a whole chunk of the drive was portioned off for backing up to factor settings (or thats how it was explained to me) and he was able to change the name of this portion, which fortunately was big enough to take the download.

So all is well that ends well.
Sorry I got your message wrong Colin, I did say I am a novice! (I'm a novice with a bad memory!)

Many thanks for all your interest and who knows someone may just run into the same problem.

Wow, how strange that MS has set itself up as an H drive !!

Any chance you might want to defray the cost of your Map Update 2008 City Navigator
as I too have a Nuvi 660 but only have 2007 maps.

                    Regards..........ebt (Steve)
