  • Bargain Books - Torrevieja

For many years I have used the above shop for books and sending cards back to the uk. What has happened to them? Went in there today and couldn´t find the hard-back fiction books! Shelves have now been replaced on one side with christmas cards and on the other full of Spanish books! Don´t get me wrong I´m all for keeping spain "Spanish" but surely when you open up a shop presumably to serve the British community the point is to sell just English language books? There are dozens of outlets where the Spanish can purchase books! I did find them eventually by the way, they were right on the bottom shelf underneath all the cards! So if you see an increase in people with worn out knees, they have probably been in Bargain Books!

Similarly, again I do shop the majority of time in Spanish supermarkets but was pleased when Iceland opened so I could pick up the odd thing or two. When I went in this week though they are selling now Bimbo bread and have tin after tin of olives! Now I never really understood why they would sell fruit and veg when there is such an abundance in Spain but again the attraction of having a "British" shop is surely to be able to buy British goods that you can´t buy elsewhere or where they would cost you an arm and a leg? Perhaps the arguement is that they want to attract the Spanish?...surely though that is why the Spanish would possibly go into the shop in the first place to buy British or they may as well stick to Mercadona!

Have to agree with you on this. Personally I could never understand why it is called Bargain books when every book that I have wanted I've managed to get far cheaper elsewhere, and as for the price of the cards well!! If any Brit is daft enough to pay Iceland's prices for fruit and veg. they deserve to be ripped off especially if you go on a Friday when the market's on across the road and you can get things for a third of the price. It's only useful for the odd thing you crave for that can't be bought from the local shops.

If the owner saw that he gets more revenue selling Spanish books rather than English, I understand him. If not, he is a crappy business man.
its all about money in the end.

And as you say about Iceland (or any other shop)... Couldnt agree more with you.
