Orihuela Costa - no public services, no amenities and a dump

Hey, my part of Orihuela Costa is on page 10 of the Coastrider. can't supply the pictures (KC1 - are they yours ????) but here's the words:

Los Balcones - we have had enough

Weary residents of Los Balcones, whose urbanisation was featured in last week’s CoastRider, contacted us again to tell us their area has now become a target for criminals owing to the fact that most of the streets are without lights, and have been for up to four months.
Since last week’s article was published, a resident who is forced to leave his car parked on the street had his window smashed and car ransacked by thieves. He cannot park his car in his garage because the contractors responsible for building new pavements in the area have blocked the exit.
The same goes for many other residents, who for some four weeks now, have been forced to park their cars on streets with no lighting because the contract work is taking so long to complete.
Residents have already complained to Playa Flamenca town hall about the dust which has been left in the roads by the pavement contractor, and of shoddy and dangerous workmanship. Now, one resident has begun to keep a diary of the days the contractor bothers to show up, and how many of them come to work on any one day. He told the CoastRider: “There are usually three, sometimes five workers, and they seem to have no system. But we haven’t seen the workers since 17 October. It appears they may have gone.”
Local resident, John Kadwell, well known in the community for his charity work, has erected banners on his street in protest at the delays. Work on the pavements on one side of the street was started and then abandoned, leaving gaping holes and electricity wires exposed, and the street is completely without light, posing a health and safety hazard to anyone venturing out after dark. John has been emailing the office for international residents at Playa Flamenca town hall over the last week, and as at going to print, he had not received a response. He said: “It is unacceptable that some people have had no access to their driveways for four weeks, and that we’ve had no lights for four months. Some vehicles have been damaged trying to enter driveways, and pathways have been left in a dangerous state. We have had no notification as to why the work has been delayed by the town hall, and no reply to
emails. This situation has gone on for too long.” A Scottish couple on the same street arrived back from a holiday in their camper van to find they couldn’t get it into their driveway. They told CoastRider: “The contractors just arrived with no warning and dug up our driveway. We could have been out shopping for the day for all they knew. This was four weeks ago, and when we returned I demanded that the supervisor who was around at the time laid some gravel to fill the great big hole they’d created, and since then I’ve been helping myself to their tiles in order to build up the driveway to get the campervan off the street. We’re absolutely fed up with this, we’re beginning to think Orihuela Town Hall is doing this on purpose so that we all leave.”
It is hardly surprising that residents of Los Balcones feel there is something of a conspiracy against them. Previously, residents were notified by Orihuela council that they would need to foot part of the bill to be connected to the sewage system, when just down the road, Torrevieja residents were connected for free. Since the new sewage system has been in place, not one resident has received an official notification from the town hall that they can connect to the new system. Street names and numbers have been changed, once more, with no notification to residents, and for months now, locals have had to endure the street works which are taking forever to complete, which once again, started with no warning.
There was no sign of the contractor on the day we visited Los Balcones last week, but plenty of dangerous holes, metal spikes and exposed electric cables had been left with no cordons or warning signs. Add this to streets that are plunged into complete darkness every night, and there is surely an accident waiting to happen.
One resident told me a lady had already fallen on a metal spike and required hospital treatment, although CoastRider did not get the opportunity to confirm this.
Since our visit, and owing to information obtained by a Spanish resident from a ‘reliable source’, there are now serious concerns that the project to repave the streets in Los Balcones has run out of money, which is why there has been no sign of workmen. Understandably, the contractor was not willing to make any comment about this issue, and as residents have had no response from the town hall, PSOE opposition councillor Rosa Martinez is now taking up this issue on their behalf through direct discussions with the councillor in charge.

O/C Must be a massive area ,some saying its great, cleaned regulary,clubs etc.etc.,While others say the complete opposite, are you miles (kilometres if you,re going to be pedantic ) apart from each other ,,you might be living next to each other but not seeing the same things? The CoastRider - Local, National News

Well, anyone having any doubts should see the whole front page of today's Coastrider newspaper. Apparently the rubbish problems in Orihuela Costa are so bad, they can even be seen from space ! - well according to Los Verdes website !

The news inside doesn't make good reading either. See page 10 - I never knew Los Balcones was part of OC, I thought it was Torrevieja's area.

I guess Los Verdes - The Greens are responsible for knocking a few more percentage points of property values in the area !

Will posters on this forum start shrieking at the Coastrider and/or Los Verdes as they did to the poster who originally flagged this issue on here please ? After all, let's all shoot the messenger and live in denial shall we ?

I find it amazing that someone of age can be filled with so much anger and hatred, it can not be healthy. I have lived in OC but moved back to the UK for work reasons, I liked my time in OC and as my father would say "I am on holiday in the morning, work in the evenings".

After reading KC1 posts I am left wondering what has happened to his community, and is he actually paying for his area to be swept and those extras you pay community charges for? Maybe not and that’s the reason.

To comment that the Spanish hate the British is quite childish, Spain was controlled by a Fascist only 30 years ago and it will take generations for that mind set to be gone, but one thing is for sure the Spanish need British & EU money to keep going, any intelligent Spaniard will say the same.

I just feel sorry for KC1, maybe if he sold up and took what he could get the British government might treat him to a council house or some sheltered housing in Glasgow.

You do live in a strange place on OC. We live there and have none of your so called problems. Our roads are swept once a week, Green waste once a week or more. There's new football pitches and sports centre and running track just being finished at Punta Prima. There are ample sports facilities at Pilar. There's a Civic centre at Playa Flamenca, there are bowling clubs and golf courses.
It is only on a later post of yours that we find out that you are a Jock!! Now there we find the true cause of your twisted bitterness to OC. You want everything on a plate without contributing like you lot do in the UK. The sooner England gives you lot of wingers the push the better off their economy will be.
In the mean time I suggest you pack up and leave and go back to Scotland.
