Transferring money advice needed

I need to transfer some money quickly from uk bank to my spanish bank. I have online accounts for both but there does not seem to be a way of transferring money on line via my bank here in UK.
My bank account in Spain does appear to have an online facility to transfer money via OBAN but it is not clear how to use the facility and I would hate to end up losing money in some 'virtual space' on the internet!
Does anyone know how else I could do this online as very difficult for me to get to a bank.
Alternatively, has anyone used the cajamurcia on line facility?

It usually takes a few days to set up online transfers to other accounts for the first time, if they will let you do it at all. You may have to do an electronic transfer took 2 days last time I did one. Cost's a bit as well.

Things have just got better! I have just opened up notification of my community charges for the coming year and there is lots of extra charges for the work they are planning to do so I now need to send even more money. C'est la vie!!

I have a similar problem as have to pay a mortgage on a regular basis in my Spanish bank, I overcame the problem by opening an account with a bank in the UK which is affiliated to the one in Spain, (Bank of Scotland here in UK and Halifax Espania in Spain) but still cannot transfer money online, have to do it by phone bank, have been told by bank that even setting up regular transfer is not possible internationally at the moment, and probably not likely for foreseeable future.

Have you thought about using a company like Foreign Currency Direct or Escape Currency. You can set up the transfers from Spain. You'll need to fax passport details and a completed form which you can download. They'll give you a decent rate of exchange and it goes through in a couple of days. Try these links to find details.

I used to tranfer money regularly from the UK via Global Currency Exchange Network they are part of HSBC and I was transferring inot a Spanish bank account not connected, there is no charge either though it takes a couple of days but that is how they make their money,

You ring them they give you the commercial rate for that day and will hold the rate theyfax it to you you sign to accept and it is done with minutes

As with all money transfers you have a few security checks on the first transfer but after that it is just like telephone banking

Hi wendetg,
You can tranfer money quite easy from a current account with HSBC and any Spanish bank, via "Send Money Overseas" the cost is £15.00 per transaction and takes 1-4 days to transfer.
You need to know the following for the recieving account:
Beneficiary Bank Identifier Code (BIC)
Beneficiary Bank name
Beneficiary Address
Benefiary IBAN Number
A bit of a fiddle the first time you set it up inputting all the info, but very easy and quick once this has been done.
If you are a bit worried about the transfer in this way and you have a little time to play with before you need a large amount, test it out with a small amount, will obviously cost £15, but it prove the system out for you without risking a large amount.

Thanks everyone. I finally got to my bank (LloydsTSB) this week and sent money by CHAPS transfer (cost £20)
I do have a regular transfer with Global Currency Exchange Network but when I rang to organise a 'one-off' addtional payment they said the amount was too small for them to handle!
I will have a look at Moneybookers and the others mentioned.

UK banks are reluctant to empower their customers by allowing them to transfer money from a UK account to a foreign bank account, in the same way that they are allowed to transfer between UK bank accounts

you not allowed to transfer from the UK to Spain online as its in breach of the money laundering laws, Currencies Direct are advisable, if you can stretch to £5k and over you get a better rate aswell
