Major plumbing problem - advice please
I am currently in England and have an apartment in Torrevieja (south side). It was rented out and my tenant contacted me to say that there appears to be a leak from my kitchen drain into the apartment below. The owner of the apartment below brought this to my tenant's attention. (my apartment is top of three).
There is no obvious leak in the pipes that can be seen in my apartment so presumably it is in a section of the drain after it disappears through my floor where they are not easily accessible.
A plumber that was called in said the floor underneath my kitchen cupboard where the sink is, would have to be dug up or depending upon where the drain disappears to, the rendering on the external wall behind the sink would have to be removed to find the problem. There is a patch of damaged rendering underneath my kitchen window indicating that this might have been a problem for some time but not noticed because the people downstairs do not spend much time there.
There is also an overpowering smell of methane escaping into the bathroom through the bath and basin drain holes but this could be a totally separate problem.
Can anyone recommend a good plumber who would have knowledge/experience of doing this type of work?
I am hoping that this will be covered by insurance but unfortunately I have foolishly left the details of my insurance in the apartment and cannot get there for another week or so to check.
