  • Electicity Supply

I understand that the supply of electricity to a dwelling is rated at so many kilowatts etc and the associated tarriff is set accordingly.

I will be moving into a 3 bed town house and will make allowances for the installation of air conditioning.

Given that the average load of an air con unit is 2kW and allowing for, say 4 units, that would be 8 kW for starters, not allowing for diversity.

Would anyone be able to advise as to the realistic capacity I should opt
    for in the first instance.

My take on this would be to have at least a 12 kW supply.
Bearing in mind that my home is a 3 bed town house.

    Any thoughts on this subject?

    Thanks

I am also interested in any advise on this subject.
I would also ask that if an upgrade is required is it better to have done during construction by the developer or is it easily done after completion. The reason I ask this is because I have already asked the developer for some estimates on additional work ie aircon, grilles and gates and have found their quotes to be very expensive compared to some prices I have seen on the forum for similar work

      Electricity supply

      Hi

The size of the cable feeding your property has to be large enough to satisfy the highest demand, the only governing factor is the main protective device (breaker) that is connected to the incoming cable.

If for instance one wants a larger supply , then the electricity company will simply replace the original breaker with one of a higher tripping capacity, at cost to you of course!

That is why I feel it is worth getting your estimated demand relatively accurate in the first place.
